Class of 1968

We had the pleasure of welcoming back the class of ‘68 to the school in October 2018. Iníon Ní Reachtaire and some of our 6th years we’re delighted to show them around the school! See photos.

Dul siar ar bhóithrín na smaointe (Lets take a trip down memory lane)

Name: Valerie Ní Sheaghdha

Memories: The '6th Year Garden' was a privilege to Seniors. We spent lots of fun lunchtimes there and the F.C.J. sisters would stop for a chat when they were passing through. This tradition, along with Slógadh, Gael Linn debates, and of course the school musicals, created a unique atmosphere of 'compánachas' amongst students and staff. Who could forget 'H.M.S. Pinafore', 'Oklahoma', or our 'Córónú'.

I loved my school blazer, but I was glad to leave the gaberdine behind. It was a long wool coat that smelled terrible when it was wet.

Where are you now? I'm back in Laurel Hill Coláiste teaching Irish and History.

Name: Rachel Rael

Memories: As a former pupil ofLaurel Hill Coláiste, what I really remember most from my time there was the atmosphere of the school. There always seemed to be a positive and warm feel to the place. We always felt welcome as pupils and our relationships with the teachers and staff were always very positive. I remember too that there were a lot of talented pupils whose abilities were celebrated. Extra curricular activities were always encouraged and I loved being a part of the choir and participating in Slógadh competitions. There were incredible musicians and singers in the school, as there are now. I remember their talents being showcased at the school masses and feeling goosebumps whilst listening to them raising the chapel roof! As a teacher now, I still look forward to hearing the pupils perform - they’ve still got it!

Where are you now? I'm back in Laurel Hill Coláiste FCJ again, only this time I am on the other side of the room as an English teacher.

Name: Marinella Raftery

Memories: As a past pupil of Laurel Hill Coláiste FCJ, I have wonderful memories of days jam packed with lessons and activities, such as debating, choir practice and rehearsals for the school musical. However, my favorite memory was taking part in the annual Slógadh. Under the inspirational stewardship of Sr. Eileen, who encouraged everyone irrespective of their talent or level of Irish, to partake in the many competitions on offer. We regularly reached the national finals, where we had the opportunity to sing, perform, dance and of course socialise with students from all over the country. In fact, I can safely say that I loved my school days so much, that I just couldn’t leave! I am currently on the teaching staff here in the school where I am a French and History teacher.

Where are you now? As a past pupil, I am honoured to be a member of the current teaching staff here in Laurel Hill Coláiste FCJ where I'm teaching French and History.
